Abstract

|
Even during the present era marked by the signal success of griseofulvin, topical treatment still has a definite place in the management of dermatophytosis.
The topical treatment for dermatophytosis should be performed in accordance with the basic principles of dermatologic therapy.
On the grounds of adverse local reactions, some antifungal preparations now freely used should be condemned.
Whitfield´s ointment still appears to have a place in treatment on skin sites where its keratolytic action is an advantage and where irritation is unlikely to occur. For more reactive skin areas, a non-irritant substance such as tolnaftate is an alternative.
